1. Is Fort Recovery a good place for a Honeymoon or Wedding?
An article appeared in a well-known Michigan newspaper about two of our honeymoon guests. They said, “We weren’t the first newlyweds to run our toes through the sun-warmed sand on the private beach at Fort Recovery and we won’t be the last. We settled into our very romantic villa and watched the beautiful sunsets every night. Fort Recovery is secluded and has its our own private beach.” Many of our guests celebrate their honeymoon, anniversaries, birthdays, and family reunions here. 2. Is Fort Recovery a good place for families and small children?
Fort Recovery is an ideal place for families and children from toddler’s to teen’s. Our private, secluded white sandy beach is very calm, well manicured and safe with no undertow, strong currents or very rough seas. Fort Recovery can arrange any activity your family would like to do, we make it an easy and enjoyable experience for everyone. Teenagers who are looking for a night out, as well as adults, will find the Bat Cave in Road Town, Bomba’s Shack in Little Apple Bay and Quito’s in Cane Garden Bay, the prime nightlife hot spots of Tortola. Live local steel bands, fungi, reggae and calypso are just a few examples of the excellent entertainment which can be found at these locations. The options are limitless and the activities a plenty. For the younger and wide-eye children you will find everything you need. Boogie boards, fun-noodles, sand-castle competitions, lizard chasing, treasure hunts, beach combing, climbing trees, island tours, delicious food and of course Cable TV with shows your child just can’t miss! We also have free WI-FI internet access throughout our property for all your communication, business and personal needs!

3. How do you get to Tortola, British Virgin Islands – BVI?
From St.Thomas (STT), USVI – 45 minute ferry ride to West End ferry dock on Tortola. 5-minute taxi ride to resort ($4/person). From San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) – Half-hour flight to Beef Island Airport (EIS), Tortola. 40 minutes taxi to the resort ($20/person). Passports: US & Canadian citizens are required to produce proof of citizenship – a passport, notarized or original birth certificate and photo I.D. are required. Currency is the US dollar ($), and the electrical current is 110 volt.

4.Where are you located in the BVI?
We are on the South/West part of Tortola, directly on the Caribbean Sea. Our small private sandy beach is great for swimming, snorkeling and shelling. The water is safe because on the south shore, undertows and rip tides do not occur here. The West End of Tortola is friendly, beautiful and the least developed part of the island.

That is not to say you will not find the convenience of Big Ben’s Superette a 5 minute walk from Fort Recovery, or Harbor Market, a charming store with everything from brand name shampoo to gourmet caviar in Soper’s Hole, a mere 5 minute drive.  Fort Recovery is completely secluded, yet not cut off from renown beaches such as Smuggler’s Cove or the nearest harbor for a day sail. This hotel has a breathtaking and very special location.

5. What about dining facilities and food provisioning?
Fort Recovery offers a Full American Breakfast daily in our restaurant. We also have a
light complimentary continental breakfast, and welcome our guests to enjoy delicious meals off of our great new menu, very reasonably priced. Free Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juice is offered from 7am to 11am.
Our restaurant enables you to relax and enjoy breakfast and dinner daily and promises to be open for lunch in the future. All of our meals are prepared by our Master gourmet chef who has been receiving rave compliments for years. We have menus which change nightly, providing guests with fresh and tasty culinary options during their stay. Cuisine ranging from meat, seafood, vegetarian, Cajun, & local Caribbean specialties.

A Superette called Big Ben’s  is a five minute walk from the resort and is open 7am-11pm daily, Monday – Sunday including holidays. There is also a major harbor nearby (about 4 mins. driving) called Soper’s Hole, which has several restaurants, clothing stores, a  large supermarket with deli and gourmet foods and various dive shops.

6. What kind of Water Sports Activities are available?
With all seven nights stays, Fort Recovery guests receive a half-day snorkeling trip and 1 free breakfast and dinner per person. Guest’s can also request to go on this exciting excursion for a mere $50 a person, a deal no one can surpass! You can also arrange with our on-site captain for a Private Boat Charter for you and your mate, or entire family on our lovely new Sunseeker Boat. Our fabulous dock with two promenades, a large space for sun bathing, is an ideal spot to jump into the water as well as the fresh water swimming pool. There are also many dive shops, sailing day-charters, sport fishing boats, windsurfing, kayaks, & swimming with the Dolphins on the island. We can have literally any equipment you desire delivered right to Fort Recovery’s premises for you (For SCUBA equipment one must present SCUBA license to Dive Shop in person), and experience some of the best snorkeling on the island at our gorgeous coral reef off-shore. Experience the calmest Kayaking and boogie boarding around right off of Fort Recovery’s private Beach.

 7. How do we arrange a car rental on Tortola?
If you pre-arrange a vehicle rental with us either by package or otherwise, the jeep can be picked up at the airport or the villas. The vehicle can be dropped off at the airport, ferry or picked up at the resort at your departure. If you prefer to take a cab two hours prior to plane departure they will pick you up and drive you to the airport ($40 per couple).

8. Are your villa-suites Beachfront or Hillside?
We are one of the only villa resorts located directly on the beach with the Caribbean right outside your door. We are neither hillside nor across the road or even a minute walk to the beautiful sea… There is no hill climbing, nor insurmountable amount of steps to get to your beautifully appointed hideaway. Our villa complex is not small, yet not enormous, allowing for very personal treatment, quick access to our lovely sandy beach, and excellent hospitality service.

9. Is there any obstruction of views from the Villas?
The views from your patios and balconies are breath-taking and the sunsets create an incomparable vision that you will always remember. We are known to have the most panoramic views of the Caribbean because of our prime, hot-spot location. All villas are directly on our private beach, and one need only step off their porch to feel the sand between their toes! All views are completely unobstructed.

10. Is Fort Recovery and the island in general a safe place to stay?
Tortola is one of the safest, most well to-do and beautiful islands in the Caribbean. One will find that locking your door at night is not a common practice, and may leave your doors wide open for that cool, trade wind’s breeze in the evening. The people are friendly, helpful and a place where “everybody knows your name”. Families and couples alike choose Tortola because of this factor and it’s incomparable beauty and unspoiled quality. The BVI Emancipation Festival each August is just one of the island activities that symbolizes island togetherness and unity.

11. Are there staff on-site at Fort Recovery to assist us at all times?
Our on-site staff are available to assist you 24/7! We have
knowledgeable front desk staff who will be available to you even in
those very late hours, be it calling you a taxi or in the event of an
emergency or other immediate issues you may be having. Have that crack
of dawn flight out of Beef Island? No problem! We can easily pre-arrange
very early morning taxi pick-up and assist you in checking out in
advance prior to your flight. We provide all of our guests with a
personal local cell phone, containing important phone numbers to taxis,
restaurants, emergency contacts and staff whom you may phone at any
time, while on-the- go or in your villa!
